Registering for 6th Grade for the 2019-2020 School Year 


Castro Valley Unified School District 6th Grade Enrollment Information for the 2019-20 School Year

Enrollment into either of the two middle schools in CVUSD is not determined by attendance boundaries. Current 5th grade students who reside within the district boundaries may apply to a preferred Middle School March 2 – 15, 2019. Important enrollment dates are listed below for students entering the 6th grade.

6th Grade Parent Information Night Parents/guardians are welcome to attend either or both middle school presentations

February 25, 2019 at 7:00pm – Creekside Middle School

February 26, 2019 at 7:00pm – Canyon Middle School

March 1, 2019 Deadline for 6th Grade Sibling enrollment Application 5th grade siblings of current 6th and 7th grade middle school students are guaranteed enrollment at their sibling’s school for the 2019-20 school year if a 6th Grade Sibling Enrollment Application is received on or before 3:30pm on Friday, March 1, 2019. A Statement of Residency Form and all of the required residency documentation must be submitted with the form by the deadline.

  • 5th grade students will receive sibling applications from their elementary school teacher following a Middle School presentation
  • Parents may also pick up an application from the main office after Feb, 8th.
March 2, 2019 – March 15, 2019 non-Sibling Enrollment of Current 5th Grade Students living in the CVUSD boundaries.

Submit the 6th Grade Enrollment Application, along with a Statement of Residency Form and all of the required residency documentation to the middle school of your choice by 3:30pm on Friday, March 15, 2019.

If either middle school exceeds their enrollment cap, placement will be determined by lottery. If needed, the lottery will take place on Monday, March 18, 2019 at 4:30pm in the CVUSD Board Room.

  • If a 5th grade student does not turn in an application form by March 15th, the student will be assigned to one of the middle schools.

Residency Requirement at CVHS

The District requires verification of residency for all students new to the District or re-enrolling and all incoming 9th grade students. All regular residency verifications are done in the Main Office located at 19400 Santa Maria Ave. Proof of residency forms can be found at http://www.cv.k12.ca.us/cvhs/. If you have any questions, please contact Castro Valley High School at 537-5910.

The following dates and times are for incoming freshmen from Canyon and Creekside Middle Schools only:

Thursday, February 7, 2019 4:15 – 5:45 p.m. Prior to Eighth Grade Parent Night,

Monday, March 4, 2019 4:15 – 6:00 p.m.

Thursday, April 11, 2019 4:15 – 6:00 p.m.

Saturday, May 4, 2019 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Wednesday, May 22, 2019 4:15 – 6:00 4:15 – 6:00 p.m.


Note: Classes will not be scheduled for incoming 9th graders until residency verification is completed. The final date for proving residency is May 2, 2019.

Parent/guardians are required to re-register student(s) each school year through their Parent Portal Account. Access for re-registration on the parent portal opens August 1st.  Prior to participation in walk-through registration, parent/guardian must log into the parent account and update student contact information, review important documents, complete and print the required district and school site forms. Submit the required forms to the school on your assigned walk through registration day.
