MUSIC

Creekside’s music program includes instruction in Choir, Band and Orchestra.

Musical instrument instruction takes place throughout the day.  Sixth graders may choose Band or Orchestra in lieu of the exploratory wheel.   Seventh and Eighth graders can take instrumental music class in place of another elective, or in addition to another elective, by choosing zero period PE.

Choral Program

Our Choral program is offered during zero period on the following days:
Wildcat Chorus (6th Grade) - Tuesday and Thursday 7:30-8:20
Concert Choir (7th/8th Grade) - Monday, Wednesday, Friday 7:30-8:20
Honor Choir (by audition only) - Wednesday 8:30-9:20
 

Instrumental Program

6th Grade Course Offerings
There are currently 2 options for 6th graders for instrumental music classes, Concert Orchestra and Concert Band.  All instrumental music classes are taken in place of the 6th grade exploratory wheel.

Course Description: Concert Orchestra 6
This course is open to all 6th grade orchestra musicians who would like to play a string instrument (violin, viola, cello, string bass). The primary function of this course is to provide a sound musical education in a large group setting. The music curriculum helps to develop better communication skills, music theory and history, personal values, group spirit, campus pride and personal discipline as well as preparation for careers and adult life. The skills of performance are demonstrated twice a year in concerts.

Course Description: Concert Band 6
This course is open to all 6th grade band musicians who would like to play a band instrument (woodwind, brass, or percussion). The primary function of this course is to provide a sound musical education in a large group setting. The music curriculum helps to develop better communication skills, music theory and history, personal values, group spirit, campus pride and personal discipline as well as preparation for careers and adult life. The skills of performance are demonstrated twice a year in concerts.

Music Parents Society

Music Parents Society (MPS) is the parent support organization for Castro Valley Music.  Part of your MPS membership money goes directly to your teacher. MPS uses the remainder to fund music programs such as, choral and instrumental concerts, music festivals, competitions, and purchasing and maintenance of instruments.

Meetings are held at Canyon in the Choir Room on the second Monday of the month from 7:00PM - 8:00PM.  All parents are encouraged to attend!  Please check the MPS web page at: www.cvmps.org.
Families are encouraged to join the Music Parents' Society of Castro Valley to support music in all the Castro Valley Unified schools.
